What’s the Best Way to Make a Neat 90-Degree Cut on a Large Piece of Wood?

I'm working on building a bookcase and I need to cut the back panel to size. The problem is that it's too large to fit on my crosscut sled, and while I can use my handheld circular saw for the job, it leaves a really messy edge. I'm looking for suggestions on other methods to achieve a clean 90-degree cut.

One great method is to use your table saw if it has a straight edge on the left side. You can set up a sliding stop using a 90-degree square, and the large board will act as its own miter sled. This is exactly the sort of idea I was looking for. Thank you!

A track saw could be ideal for this kind of cut, but I get that it might be pricey for just one job. You could also make a DIY track saw using MDF, which will work just fine for cutting large panels!

That's a cool idea! I’ll definitely look into building a track saw.

If you only need to make this cut once, consider using your circular saw to cut just behind the line, and finish it off with a hand plane for a clean edge. It's a simple solution that might save you some hassle.
