I'm planning to install some floating shelves using a couple of boards I've squared up. I have a set of brackets but I'm worried about how to mount them properly since it seems like I can only secure one screw into a stud due to their design. Are there any easy and effective methods to mount these shelves securely?

I recently tackled a similar project with adjustable brackets. My tips? Use a good stud finder and a level during installation. I mounted both brackets securely to the studs, which helped a ton. If you can get both sides into a stud, that's the way to go—especially for heavier items, you should avoid using wall anchors just in case.
For floating shelves, these brackets can be tricky. One idea is to invest in a more reliable set of floating shelf brackets that have a longer bar with multiple holes, allowing you to drill into the studs properly. Although they may not burst with strength, consider drilling the screws at an angle for better grip. If you're concerned about heavy items, adding some blocking behind the drywall for additional support can make a real difference.
A straightforward method is to screw into the stud at an angle. The brackets are only about 2.4 inches wide, so with good length screws, you should get a solid hold. Also, cutting a mortice in the back of the shelf to hide the bracket would definitely improve aesthetics!
