What’s the Best Way to Mount Rocker Switches?

I've got a bunch of KDC3 rocker switches that I often use for my automotive projects. Now, I'm trying to incorporate them into my electronics projects, but I've hit a snag. To get them to fit into the housing or box I'm working with, I need to cut a really precise rectangle, and it's a pain! I haven't been able to find any simple metal plates or off-the-shelf solutions for this. Am I using the wrong search terms? It feels like such common switches should have a mounting solution readily available. Here's what I'm dealing with: [link to rocker switches]. Any suggestions?

You might want to check out the 37mm rocker switches—they're common for off-road accessories. There’s a bunch of panels and mounting plates for them available on sites like Amazon and eBay, so it could save you some hassle. They're great if you want something more ready-made!

I get what you're saying. Those automotive-style switches can be bulky and often pricey. My project needs something simpler and more affordable, not the clunky options!

There are some specific knockout punches that can create perfect holes for switches. They’re pricier for metal, but plastic ones are more affordable. I found mine at DigiKey, which is also where I sourced my switches. You could definitely find something that fits your needs better!

Are those knockout punches rectangular? I’ve never come across them before!

Have you thought about using a 3D printer for your mounts? You can customize the size and shape however you need. Just use a standard hole saw and you're good to go. It’s super handy for DIY projects!
