I'm working on a small concrete pour, roughly 6 cubic feet in total, consisting of a 1 x .5 x 8 foot slab and a couple of 1 x 1 x 1 piers. I was thinking about putting wooden blocks in my pickup truck bed, covering them with tarps, and then having the ready mix delivered right into the back so I can drive it straight to my forms—it's only about a mile away. Alternatively, I could build a box out of plywood and 2x6s to pour the concrete into, which would extend over the tailgate. This would involve removing a crossboard at the back to transfer the concrete into the forms with a hoe. I'm concerned I'm going about this the wrong way and would love any suggestions you might have!

Honestly, for such a small amount, I'd recommend just mixing it on-site with bagged concrete. You'll avoid damaging your truck with splatters, and trust me, driving with wet cement in the back can be a nightmare if anything goes wrong. Plus, it reduces the mess and hassles of transporting a truckload of slush.

True! I can't imagine how messy that would be. Mixing it right there sounds like a smarter plan.
