I need some advice on how to handle my super hard, rock-like clay soil so I can lay down sod. Right now, I'm planning to go to Bunnings to try a method where I add sand and potting mix to level it out, and then tamp it down by walking on it. Once that's done, I'll lay the sod. I'm hoping there's an easier or better way to get this done. Any tips would be greatly appreciated!

It sounds like you're on the right track, but adding sand to clay can actually trap water and create problems for your sod. Instead, I recommend getting an aerator to break up that tough clay. Grass actually thrives in clay! If you've already laid sand, maybe consider adding some peat, then rent a tiller to mix everything up nicely before laying the sod. Flattening is usually for patios, but for grass, you want to focus on aeration and good soil mix. Good luck!

Thanks for this! The aerator seems like a lot of work, but I'll definitely look into it. If there's another quicker option, I'm all ears!
