I'm converting an enclosed trailer into a mobile vet exam room for an animal rescue, and the interior is currently just plywood on the walls and floor. I want to make everything as easy to clean as possible without adding too much weight. The floor will be covered with rolled linoleum, which I can bleach when needed. For the walls, I need a paint or finish that can withstand scrubbing and heavy-duty cleaners. Have you considered putting rolled linoleum on the walls too? It could be a great way to keep the clean-up simple, just like the floor.
Plywood alone isn't ideal for cleanability, honestly. You might want to look into water-resistant panel systems that can go over it. They make cleaner options available at home improvement stores that would be much easier to keep tidy.
For plywood, the rough surface can be tricky since it holds onto dirt. Make sure to prep it well by sanding and priming, which will smooth it out a bit. I suggest using a high-quality urethane enamel designed for cabinets; they’re durable and easier to apply. You might also consider using plastic paneling instead of just painting, which can be found at large home improvement stores and offers good durability and cleanability.
Instead of painting, shower wall panels could be a better option. They’re made from PVC or coated MDF and are specifically designed for easy cleaning, plus they come in styles fit for commercial use. That's what I'd recommend!
Totally agree! Fiber-reinforced plastic (FRP) panels would be awesome for waterproofing and cleaning.
