What’s the Best Way to Raise a Hardibacker Floor for LVP Installation?

I installed 1/4" hardibacker on my second-level subfloor for tile, but now I need to switch to LVP and raise the floor by another 1/2". I'm trying to find a way to do this without having to remove the existing hardibacker. Can I just add a layer of plywood over it, followed by the LVP barrier? The thick LVP underlayments like Quietboard are only about 1/4" thick. Any tips on how to tackle this effectively?

You should be fine putting 1/2" plywood right over the hardibacker. It might be a bit more of a hassle to drive screws through both layers, but it’s definitely doable. Just make sure to use screws that are long enough to grab the subfloor underneath the backer board. Pulling up the backer and replacing it with 3/4" could be more work than it’s worth!

That’s what I was thinking too! I’ll just screw through both layers. Thanks for the advice!
