What’s the Best Way to Refloor Over Plank Subfloor in a 60s House?

I live in a 61-year-old house and currently have linoleum laid on top of 3/8" plywood, which is over 2x12 wooden planks on joists. The plank flooring has gaps of about 1/4 to 1/2 inch between them and there's some water damage near the toilet. I'm considering putting tile in. Can anyone share some tips or videos on the best way to handle this? Thanks a lot!

Have you thought about using Luxury Vinyl Tile (LVT) instead? It comes with padding or underlayment, making it way easier to install and it can handle some movement in the floor better than traditional tile. It’s a great option for kitchens and bathrooms.

Definitely check for asbestos before you do anything with the linoleum. Slice a small piece from an inconspicuous spot to send for testing. If the water damage isn't too extensive, you can possibly screw down some thicker plywood on top for a sturdier base before tiling.
