What’s the Best Way to Remove a Lawn in the UK?

Hey everyone! I'm in the thick of a garden renovation and need some advice on removing my lawn completely. I thought about using a petrol turf cutter, but honestly, it's been a real struggle, and my lawn is about 10x7m—not exactly a small project! I've checked with some landscaping companies, but they only want to take on big jobs, and I just need the lawn gone for now. I've been considering garden clearance companies or maybe even hiring a handyman who can work with the turf cutter. Has anyone done something similar? Am I on the right track with these garden clearance companies, or is there another option I should explore? Thanks!

I suggest spraying the lawn with Roundup to kill everything before you start digging. Just follow the instructions! That way, once the grass is dead, you won’t have to worry about it coming back. Turf cutters can leave a lot of roots behind, which just complicates things.

That's a good point! If you're going for terraced beds instead of grass, how long should you wait after using Roundup before planting? Just trying to figure that part out!

Why not find a couple of local laborers to help out? They can strip off the grass and top soil—about an inch should do. Just make sure to have a skip ready for all the waste, and equip them with the right tools. You could probably get them for around £15 an hour each.
