I'm looking for the quickest and safest method to get rid of a tree stump without harming the surrounding plants. Unfortunately, I don't have access to a grinder and I want to avoid expensive solutions. Any suggestions?

If you're willing to do a little digging first, you can buy a reciprocating saw at places like Aldi for a reasonable price. Just excavate around the stump, and start cutting the roots. It's time-consuming, but not too hard at all!
I managed to take out a couple of tree stumps using just a spade and a saw. It took a bit of time, but it worked well!
If you have access to a power drill, a great option is to drill large holes into the stump, then fill those with compost. It could turn into a neat little stumpery!
Using a mattock can be a solid way to break up the stump. Just dedicate a couple of hours, and you’ll probably be able to get it out yourself!
When I had to deal with a sticking root, I used a hammer and chisel. It was pretty effective for getting what I needed done!
Thanks for the tip! I might try that if other methods don't work.

That sounds doable! I’ll check out Aldi for that saw.
