What’s the Best Way to Remove Paint from Drywall Without Damaging It?

Hey everyone! I'm trying to remove paint from a drywall, but it's proving to be quite a challenge. The paint just isn't scraping off easily, and applying too much pressure is leaving streaks, which is really frustrating. I'd love some tips on how to effectively get the paint off while making sure the drywall stays intact so I can repaint it. The current paint is Bear Paint Marquees—a paint and primer combo from what I can gather. Also, I'm looking for advice on removing paint from the ceiling. I'm not sure what paint is up there, but it seems like it's just peeling away when I scrape it, which makes me think there wasn't a primer used. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance!

Hey there! It sounds like you're dealing with a tricky situation, possibly intercoat peeling, which can happen if different types of paint are used without the right preparation. I suggest scraping off any loose paint and then sanding the edges to smooth things out. After that, apply a good quality primer like Kilz, Bin, or CoverStain. I personally prefer CoverStain since it’s oil-based and will help seal everything and reduce future peeling. Just make sure to prime all the areas, not just the peeling parts, for the best bond when you repaint.

Thanks for the tips! What grit sandpaper do you recommend for smoothing things out before I apply the primer? Also, I've read conflicting advice about mixing oil and latex paints. Do you have a paint brand you'd recommend for the topcoat based on your primer choice?
