What’s the Best Way to Remove Sticky Residue from a Wall After Taking Down a Sign?

I just bought a property and took down the property manager's sign from the front of the building, but it seems there's a stubborn residue left behind. I tried peeling it off, but it looks like it's taking some paint with it too. Should I just scrape it off and repaint? I'm looking for the best methods to tackle this sticky mess without damaging the wall further. Any tips?

It looks like you might be dealing with a construction adhesive like polyurethane. Chemicals could be ineffective since it’s probably cured. Your best bet might be to use a chisel or a flat-head screwdriver to carefully scrape it off. Just be gentle to avoid further damaging the paint.

You might want to try calling the agent who handled the property. They might be responsible for the sign and could help with getting it removed and fixing any damages.

If the adhesive is really tough, using acetone could help loosen it up. Just make sure to test it on a small area first to see how your paint reacts with it!
