Hey everyone! I've got this textured paint on my wall that's really flaking at the bottom due to some water damage. I'm planning to remove the paint, fill in the holes, and then apply a faux wood panel on the wall for a fresh look. However, I need the wall to be smooth for that. I've tried using an orbital sander with 80 grit discs, but it didn't do much. I also tried an angle grinder with a 40 grit disc, but it leaves a rough surface and creates a ton of dust—plus, I can't attach a vacuum to it. I've been scraping with a spatula, but the paint is super old and hard, so it's taking forever. I'm looking for any tips or tricks to make this job easier and more effective! Thanks!

If you're looking to remove textured paint quickly, you might want to try using a heat gun. It softens the paint, making it much easier to scrape off. Just be careful not to burn the wall! Also, if you're having issues with sanding, a chemical stripper can help—just make sure to ventilate the room and follow safety precautions.
Instead of stressing over the texture, consider directly applying the faux wood panel on top. If it's foam wallpaper stuff, it should adhere fine even on textured surfaces. Just make sure to prep the area first if the texture is really severe.
