I have a small tree and I want to take its bark off. Unfortunately, I don't have any specialized tools like a drawing knife or a peeling spud. I do have some saws and other general home tools. What's the best method to remove the bark with what I have?

If you're in the spring, it's actually a great time to remove birch bark because it's easier to peel off. A sharp knife should do the job nicely, though some say a hatchet or even a pressure washer might help if the bark is fresh. Just watch your fingers!
You could try using a blunt chisel to score the bark all the way down the trunk, then gently pry it off. Just be careful not to damage the wood underneath too much!

Yeah, using teeth sounds like a bad idea! But seriously, sharp knives or even just a good old hatchet can work really well.
