I noticed that my asphalt driveway got damaged after a gas canister leaked for about 12 hours. It ate through a section of asphalt, and now I've dug out a hole that's approximately 8"x6" and 3.5" deep. I'm considering filling it with gravel to match the base level and then using cold patch, but I've heard mixed reviews about that. Given the size of the area, I'm looking for the best repair method. Any suggestions?

I've been through something similar before. I had gas dripping on my driveway, and it messed up the asphalt badly. I ended up using cold patch, and it lasted for five years! Here’s what I did: Use a propane torch to heat the edges of the hole until it’s hot. This will help to evaporate any leftover gasoline and moisture. Then, apply the cold patch while everything's still hot and compact it down firmly with something like an 8x8” tamper. Trust me, it helps the patch hold up better.

That's a great tip! Heating it up really makes a difference. I hadn't thought about that approach before.
