What’s the Best Way to Safely Remove a Large Mirror from the Wall?

My friend is moving into a new place and needs to get rid of a large mirror that's been stuck to the wall with glue since the 90s. What are some effective methods to remove it without breaking it, even if it means some paint might come off in the process?

Removing a large mirror can be tricky! One suggestion is to use duct tape on the front in a big X pattern. This helps support the mirror while you’re taking it down. You could also get some thin wire—similar to dental floss—and carefully use it like a saw behind the mirror to cut through the adhesive. Just remember to have someone help you out—or at least film the whole thing if it doesn’t go as planned!

If you want a more methodical approach, try buying some wood shims from a local hardware store. You can gently tap the shims around the edges of the mirror to slowly pry it away from the wall. This definitely needs at least two people since it can drop suddenly, so make sure to wear gloves and eye protection while you're at it!

Don't forget sturdy shoes! You want something that can protect your feet if things go south.
