What’s the Best Way to Safely Remove a Towel Rack Without Damaging the Wall?

I'm currently updating my bathroom and I need to take down a towel rack and toilet paper holder. They seem to be glued to the drywall, and I want to remove them without causing any damage. Does anyone have tips or experiences with this?

Typically, towel racks should be anchored in, not glued, but it sounds like yours might be an exception. If it really is glued down, I’d suggest using an oscillating tool. It'll help you cut through the glue without damaging the drywall too much!

I actually got an oscillating tool for Christmas! I guess this is the time to try it out.

If the towel rack was installed correctly, there might be a little set screw holding it to a mount on the wall. Check the bottom part of the rack for a small hole; you could use an Allen key or tiny screwdriver to loosen it and pull it off. If you can't find one, it could be glued or stuck down really well.

I checked and there are definitely no set screws. I think they just used some heavy-duty adhesive.
