What’s the Best Way to Seed a Shady Banked Area in My Garden?

I have a garden with a lot of shade, and last year I scarified and overseeded sections that were taken over by moss. Now, I'm looking at a bare, banked area surrounded by trees and considering buying woodland and wildflower seeds to cover it. Would this be a good approach? Should I mix in some grass seed as well? I'm open to any other suggestions too!

For your shady banked area, I recommend using red fescue grass seed, which is shade-tolerant. You might also want to consider planting some plug plants, like cowslips, that thrive on banks. Just make sure not to mow the grass too short once it grows; banks can dry out quickly, and you want to encourage deep rooting. When you seed, try creating shallow pockets with a fork to help prevent heavy rain from washing the seeds down the slope, especially since it's steep.

Thanks, I’ll definitely look into that. The bank is really steep and has some established trees, so I was hoping to just let it grow naturally. The place was neglected before, so I've just been cleaning up the fallen branches and debris for now.
