What’s the Best Way to Store Your Custom Soil Mixes for Houseplants?

I'm experimenting with creating my own aroid potting mix for my houseplants, but I'm not sure about the best storage methods. Can a large storage container be used effectively? Does the mix need to have some ventilation, and should I be concerned about potential mold growth? Right now, I keep all my soil supplies in my shed outside. How do you all manage storage for your custom soil blends?

I prefer a plastic bin with a lid for storage. It's not airtight, so if my soil's a bit wet, I let it dry out with the lid off before sealing it up. You might even drill a few holes if you notice mold forming. Usually, I store it in the basement, but during the warmer months, it sometimes hangs out in my dining room for easy access.

I usually go for a garbage bag or, even better, an insulated Aldi bag. The thicker plastic and nice handles make it perfect for storage and way less bulky than a bin!

I love using containers from IKEA! I keep my mixed soil in one, while perlite and peat moss go into separate ones. To avoid mold, I don’t seal them tightly—more like I just place the lids on top. It’s lazy but works well for me! Plus, I haven’t had any issues with mold so far.

Is it acceptable to store my soil mix on the living room floor in a 3' plastic potting mat? Honestly, I just toss mine into a large storage bin—like the ones people use for holiday decorations or baby clothes—but I always forget to actually put it away!
