What’s the Best Way to Strip Cabinet Doors for Staining or Painting?

I'm looking for the easiest and quickest way to strip my cabinet doors down to the wood so I can either stain or paint them. My family is busy, and I want to tackle this myself, but I'm not sure about the best method. Can anyone share tips or techniques?

Using a heat gun can be super effective, especially if your cabinets have thick layers of paint. Just heat the paint and scrape it off right away; I can do a full door in about two hours this way. For staining, you’ll need to be a bit careful with details, but if you're just painting, you won't have to worry as much about being meticulous.

Definitely go for it! Just remember to keep the heat moving so you don’t scorch the wood.

If you plan to paint, you might not even need to entirely strip the doors. Just give them a quick sanding to roughen up the surface and apply a good primer. But if you’re aiming for a stain, you might want to use a stripper to get to bare wood if they've been factory painted, though it can be a lot of work! Good luck!

How do I clean off grease from the cabinets first? I've got some buildup near the stove.
