I'm looking for advice on how to properly support my cucumber plants as they grow. In the past, I had one that struggled because the stems snapped when the cucumbers got bigger. Is using a trellis the best option, or are there other methods that work well?

I used to use bamboo stakes and string to support my cucumbers when planting in the ground. These days, I’ve switched to a square planter with a built-in trellis since I grow in containers now. Works great!
You really should support them with a trellis. It makes a huge difference!
Definitely go with a trellis! It doesn’t need to be anything fancy—I've used garden netting from the dollar store tied to a deck. Just secure it with some sticks to keep it steady against the wind. With three plants, I usually pick at least one cucumber every day during the summer. I’ve also tried training them to grow along a chain link fence, which works well unless the cucumbers end up on the other side!

Sounds good! So you just place the planter with the trellis in the soil alongside the cucumber plant?
