I bought my house about a year and a half ago, and the fridge is from 2009. It's still working great, but I noticed it has an ice maker. The problem is, it doesn't currently have a water line running to it, and there's no sign that there ever was one, like no water valve in the wall or hole in the floor. Before I go ahead and install a full water line, I want to check if the ice maker actually works. Is there a way to temporarily connect a line from my kitchen faucet or something similar to test it?

Another idea is to pour water directly into the ice maker tray if you can access it easily. Remember, though, this will just let you know if it can freeze and dump ice; it won't check if the water fills properly since that’s controlled by a solenoid valve.
You can definitely test the ice maker! Just take a water line and connect it to the cold water shut-off valve under your kitchen sink. If you want to keep using the sink while testing, you can get a 3/8 to 1/4 reducer or even a tee connection to hook it up without cutting off your water supply.
