What’s the Best Wood for Building a Chicken Coop?

Hey everyone! I'm on the hunt for the best type of wood to use for building chicken coops. I've been using pine pallets, but honestly, I feel like pine is a bit too soft for the job. I've come across some hardwood furniture pieces like tables and bookshelves that have a shiny finish. If I break those down to use the wood, would they be safe for my chickens? Also, if I sand them down, will that remove any oils or finishes that might be harmful?

Pine is a solid choice! It’s cheap, readily available, and works just fine for building structures like coops. Just keep in mind it can be a bit fragile.

True, but what about using old hardwood furniture instead of pine? Seems like that could hold up better!
