What’s the Best Woodworking Book for Beginners?

I'm on the hunt for a solid reference book for woodworking, something like a definitive guide that covers different types of wood, terminology, and general techniques. Any recommendations for a strong foundational text that's great for someone just starting out?

Don't overlook YouTube! There are tons of great woodworking channels with clear explanations for all levels. But I definitely get the love for physical books too—there's something nice about being able to highlight and bookmark.

So true! I enjoy watching videos as well. But sometimes, having a book in hand feels more practical.

You might want to check out Nick Engler’s books. He has a whole series with general info and great projects. Some are available as ebooks and they're really easy to follow. I've been skimming through them and I’m quite impressed! His YouTube channel is helpful too.

Appreciate the suggestion! I’ve added his book on furniture and cabinetry making to my Amazon cart!

I just wrapped up reading Hoadley’s "Understanding Wood," and it’s fantastic for beginners! It really breaks down the fundamentals.

Sounds like a solid read! I’ve added it to my Amazon wish list. Thanks for the tip!

That’s Bruce Hoadley, right? I’ll check it out!
