What’s the Cheapest State to Buy Windows for Renovation?

I'm renovating my house in New Jersey and just got a really high quote for new windows. I'm curious if anyone knows which states typically offer cheaper prices for window purchases, especially considering that some might have lower taxes or construction costs. Any insights would be appreciated!

If you're in the New England area, people often head to New Hampshire since they have no sales tax. That could help you save a bit!

Just a heads-up, though, if you're buying out of state, you might owe the tax when you file in New Jersey, even though most people don't pay it.

Consider checking out Milgard windows available at Home Depot. You can order custom sizes, and if you sign up for a pro account, you could get a discount. Just keep in mind that I wouldn’t recommend letting Home Depot handle the installation; it might be pricier than getting a local contractor!

Yeah, I heard that too! It's best to get your own installers to save some cash.

As a contractor, I can tell you that a big chunk of the cost of windows is actually tied to the labor for installation, not just the windows themselves. Typically, if a window costs around $300-$400, the installation can easily cost the same or more. So, while finding cheap windows is great, don’t forget about those installation costs too!

Got it, thanks! I'm just trying to find good options to save on the actual windows before dealing with the installation.
