What’s the Cost to Replace Old Drop Ceiling Tiles in My Basement?

I have an old drop ceiling in my basement that's made of paper mache material, and I'm looking to replace it. The area I'm working with is about 400 square feet. Can anyone give me an idea of the costs involved in getting new ceiling tiles?

If you're replacing with new drop ceiling tiles, it’s pretty straightforward to get an idea of the cost. These tiles usually come in 2x2 or 2x4 sizes, so just head over to your local big-box store to price them out. DIY is definitely an option, though keep in mind it can get tricky, especially if stuff is above the tiles in tight spaces.

Thanks for the tip! I didn't realize it was that simple to check prices.

What about the frame? Do I need to replace that too?

Are you looking to switch from tiles to drywall or just new tiles? If you're sticking with tiles, that’ll keep your costs lower. But if the frame is in good shape, you might not need to replace it, which is a bonus for your budget!

I prefer keeping the tiles. They’re easier to work with for any future repairs.

Totally agree! Plus, if you want to access plumbing or wiring later, drop ceilings are way easier.
