What’s the Deal with DeWalt’s Warranty?

I've been using DeWalt tools at work, specifically the DCF850 and DCD996 models, for a couple of years now. Recently, we've run into some issues with both tools, but DeWalt is asking us to pay for repairs even though their warranty is supposed to cover three years. I reached out to Milwaukee, their major competitor, to find out about their warranty, and they offer full coverage for five years. This raises the question: why does it feel like DeWalt is falling behind in terms of warranty and support? I really like DeWalt tools, but this is making me reconsider my loyalty.

I've been using Milwaukee for years and have had a pretty smooth experience, even with their warranty policy. I’ve heard mixed reviews though—some say Milwaukee was a real pain with warranty claims in the past, but they might have improved recently. My experience with DeWalt’s warranty has been mostly positive, though I've only dealt with battery issues so far.

It's interesting to see how different people's experiences can be. I called Milwaukee's customer support today to ask about their warranty, and I only waited two minutes to talk to someone, which was a big change from my experience with DeWalt!

From what I understand, DeWalt offers three years for defects. If something's faulty after that, they might not cover it. However, I get that it's easier for Milwaukee to advertise a five-year warranty given their business model. Still, I’d expect better service for the money we pay for these tools!

I had trouble with both my DCF850 and DCD996 within six months due to defects. Tools that expensive shouldn’t malfunction that quickly! Plus, dealing with customer service has been tough; it feels like they aren’t knowledgeable about the tools themselves. And that claim about using prison labor? Sounds unfounded, so I’d like to see some proof on that.

I hear you! I've noticed that Milwaukee is really gaining traction lately while DeWalt is lagging behind in customer service and support. It's becoming common to see ads for DeWalt sets where people say they've switched to Milwaukee. DeWalt needs to step up their game before the rest of us move on!

Yeah, I'm a DeWalt fan too, but it's 2025, and we have to admit that when it comes to power tools, both brands are solid. Take the new 860 impact, for example—it's more expensive than the Gen4 Milwaukee, but Milwaukee outperforms it and has better warranty coverage. It's frustrating to pay more for less value.
