What’s the Deal with Lowe’s Gardening Section?

I've always shopped at Home Depot for my gardening needs, like soil and houseplants, mainly because I prefer my local nurseries. Recently, I heard people rave about the low prices and great plant finds at Lowe's, especially in their clearance section. So, I decided to check it out myself. Unfortunately, I was pretty disappointed. The gardening section was much smaller than my local Home Depot, and a lot of the plants looked dried out. It honestly gave me anxiety; I just wanted to water them all! Also, while I was there, I needed help loading some dirt bags into my trunk, but the cashier couldn't leave, and no one was around to assist. I even spotted some employees just sitting outside in a mulch area. I really hope my local Lowe's isn't representative of all Lowe's stores. Based on this experience, I think I'll stick with Home Depot, where the plants seem more cared for. Has anyone else had similar experiences with Lowe's?

I've had a mixed experience too. It really depends on the store manager and the location. For me, neither Lowe's nor Home Depot is my top choice for plants, especially if I’m looking for perennials or bigger stuff like bushes and trees. Local garden centers often have much better quality and care.

Totally agree! I rarely go to big box stores for plants anymore. I prefer to grow my annuals by seed.

I live close to both Lowe's and Home Depot, but honestly, they feel pretty interchangeable and are still worse than my local garden store. My experience has been mostly the same as yours, especially with the customer service.

I hear you! It's frustrating when the staff isn't available to help when you need it.

Yeah, customer service at Lowe's and Home Depot can be hit or miss. I've heard a lot of complaints about it. Sometimes it's just worth it to support the local shops.
