I've noticed my boiler leaking a drop every 5-10 seconds since we bought our home two months ago. This morning, it seemed like the leak got worse. There's a technician coming out on Tuesday, but over the phone, he hinted that the boiler might be completely shot and will need a replacement costing over $10,000. Since this is our first home and we're clueless about plumbing, I really want to make sure I don't get ripped off. Any advice or insights on this?

I’m not a pro either, but I’ve seen some boilers under $1,000, so hopefully, you won't hit that $10k mark. I’d suggest budgeting up to $2,000 max but aim for less if possible. When you get quotes, don’t mention your current boiler failure—just say you’re in a new house and the boiler’s old.
Definitely get three quotes. Don’t freak out if one of them is super high—sometimes businesses are swamped and price accordingly. It’s all about finding someone trustworthy.
You might want to check out plumbing forums for better advice. From that pic, it looks like the leak is coming from the burner area, not the boiler itself. Just a heads up, I’m no expert, though!

Where can I even find a boiler for less than $1,000? That seems crazy low; around here, they start at about $8k!
