What’s the Difference Between Left and Right Downspout ‘Y’s? Can You Just Flip Them?

I have a question about downspouts, specifically the left and right 'Y' types. Is there any significant difference between the two? Can't I just flip one over to switch its designation? I'm curious about the practical reasons for having both types rather than just one. Here's a link to an image for reference: https://imgur.com/a/NfkOqBn

The difference mainly lies in the seams. When installed, the seam on the downspout should face the wall. If you flip it, the seam might end up showing, which can look a bit off if you’re picky about your setup. So, while they can technically work both ways, aesthetics and installation standards usually dictate how they should be oriented.

That makes sense, thank you!

You're spot on about the seams! Most of the time, we aim to hide them for a cleaner look, especially in visible areas. A lot of folks who are detail-oriented won’t be happy with that seam showing. Not entirely sure why there's a price difference between left and right, though.

We actually call that seam the 'vein' in our group!
