I'm trying to wall mount my TV, but the wiring needs to go through a noggin (horizontal stud) in the wall. I've heard different suggestions like using extension bits or drilling multiple holes, which sounds like a hassle because I'd have to replaster. I'm looking for the simplest and most efficient method to do this without too much trouble. Any tips?

Both Lowe's and Home Depot sell 48" drill bits. You can cut your top and bottom holes in a straight line, drill through, and then grab the drill tip with gloves to pull it through. It should have a hole for string, which you can use to yank the wires back. Don’t forget to install retro rings for the wires and use the right plates when you finish up—then you'll be all set to hang that TV!
If you're running wire inside the wall, you'll need to make a decent-sized hole to drill through the horizontal stud. My suggestion would be to cut out about a 16-inch section of drywall between the studs. It’s easier and less messy than patching multiple holes later. Plus, you can cover it back up nicely without bodging it. Or if you want a fast fix, consider cable channels to hide the wires, but they might not look perfect if aesthetics matter to you.
Great idea! I didn’t think about replacing the drywall entirely. I want a clean look, so maybe I’ll pass on the cable channels.
You can get really long drill bit extensions that are perfect for this. They’re what pros and data guys typically use. Just make sure you don’t overdo it—ask me how I know that!
