What’s the Ideal Space Around a Toilet in a Guest Bathroom?

I've got a guest bathroom in the basement that won't see too much action, and my wife chose a vanity that leaves 44 inches between the bathtub and where we want to put the toilet. I keep finding info online about minimum space requirements, with 30 inches being the least and 32 or 36 being more comfortable. But no one's really talking about how much space is too much! Do you guys think 44 inches will look strange? Should I suggest she go for a bigger vanity instead?

Why not add a slim trash can with a pedal lid in that space? It shouldn't get in the way during use, and every bathroom needs a trash can!

That’s a clever idea! Just be sure the toilet paper is within reach, maybe keep it in the vanity and grab it from there.

Hey, what's the size of the vanity you're using?

It's about 40 inches wide. I suggested a bigger one, but my wife loves this one for the design!

According to building codes, you need at least 18 inches on either side of the toilet for comfort, so you’re well above that! Just make sure the toilet paper is accessible, otherwise you might have some awkward moments!

Yeah, but I'm not sure if 44 inches looks a bit too spacious or odd.
