Hey everyone! I'm looking to install a water softener and I need some guidance. I have copper lines coming into my house, likely around 1.5 to 1.75 inches in diameter. My plan is to cut the incoming line in my garage and connect it to a water softener using PEX-A. I don't have any plumbing experience, but I've been watching YouTube videos and they say cutting the copper line is pretty straightforward. I'm interested in the cheapest method, and I've heard about using SharkBite connectors instead of buying all the tools. Does anyone have tips on the tools I should use? Also, what water softeners do you recommend from Home Depot — Rheem, Aquasana? Thanks for your help!

Make sure to double-check the size of your water lines. Having anything larger than an inch in a residential home would be quite unusual, unless it’s someone like Jeff Bezos! I'd definitely recommend getting your own PEX tools because while SharkBite fittings are convenient, they can get pricey and aren't as reliable for multiple connections. Buying the crimping tool is a good investment; it makes for stronger joints and will save you money in the long run.
You'll find that the tools for PEX piping are much cheaper in the long run than going with SharkBite fittings. If you plan to do several connections, investing in tools can save you cash overall.
Haha, good catch on my sizing! Thanks for the advice!
