What’s the Most Affordable Way to Start a Garden?

I'm looking for the cheapest ways to get into gardening, considering both financial investment and the time required. I have access to a backyard and probably have some supplies, but I'm unsure which gardening methods would be best for a budget-friendly start. Any tips or thoughts on what I should focus on?

First, think about what you want to grow. If you enjoy cooking, starting with a little herb garden on your porch could be great. I grew pumpkins and even a loofah vine this year! It's a fun project! Just pick something that excites you and go for it.

I like the idea of growing veggies. It would save me money on groceries, especially living with my parents for now. Gardening seems like a unique chance to pick up a hobby!

Check your local library! I got a bunch of seeds for free this year. Just ask the librarians for tips on seed availability. They often restock on certain days and might have a limit, but it's worth it! I'm currently harvesting a ton of veggies from those seeds!

I think my library might have seeds. What types should I look for? And what growing methods should I ask about?

Starting a garden can vary a lot based on your environment. If your soil isn't great, that might require some investment to fix. Also, if you have pesky animals around, you might need to think about fencing. And if your area is hot and dry, irrigation could be necessary. I recommend starting a compost pile now and looking for local bulk resources. Let me know where you're located, and I can give better suggestions!

I live in Arizona, which is super hot! I don't have issues with animals but some birds are a pain. I want to grow veggies, but I'm torn on where to start.
