I'm looking to grow beans in buckets to protect them from snails that keep eating my plants. I've had success with other veggies, but I'm uncertain about the right bucket size for both bush beans (which grow to about 30 cm) and the taller pole beans that reach up to 3 meters. Would using 20L buckets work, or do I need to get 40L buckets instead?

For bush beans, a 20L bucket will work just fine for a single plant. If you're going for the 3m tall pole beans, you might want to use a 40L bucket to plant 3 or 4 of them for optimal growth!
Last year, I used 5-gallon grow bags for my beans and fit about 4 plants in each. They produced just as much as when I had only one per bag, so you might want to consider that option too!
I've had great results growing beans in 5-gallon buckets! They thrive well enough. Just to give you an idea, I've got a photo of my setup where you can see how they grew nicely in that space.
Is that one plant per bucket? Also, they look really nice!
When I first tried growing pole beans, I used 3-gallon pots and managed to plant 3 in each. They did really well, so you might have some flexibility in what size you choose!

Thank you!
