I recently picked up this adorable lavender plant from the store, but I'm really struggling to keep it alive. I've done my homework and tried watering it just enough, but it seems like no matter what I do, it ends up wilting away. I water it only when the top two inches of soil are dry, but either I give it too little or too much water, and it just hasn't worked out for me. For context, I have city water that isn't hard, and I keep the lavender in an IKEA glass cabinet greenhouse that gets about 8 hours of sunlight a day. My greenhouse even has fans and LED lights on timers! I can keep herbs like rosemary and basil thriving, along with other plants, but lavender completely flummoxes me. So how do I keep this tricky little plant alive?

Lavender likes to be pretty dry between waterings, so make sure you really let the soil dry out before you water again. A good rule of thumb is to wait until it’s completely dry, sometimes even wait longer between waterings just to be safe. It can be sensitive, so it’s all about that balance!
You might want to try repotting your lavender in a bigger pot! It sounds like it might be too cramped right now. A larger container will give it more room to grow. Just be sure to use well-draining soil – that’s super important for lavender since they don’t like sitting in water.
Great idea! I didn’t think about going up a size in the pot. I’ll give that a shot.
Thanks for the tip! I’ll definitely try waiting longer. How much water do you usually give it when you do?
