I'm looking to install a divider in my closet to create a little home office nook, and I want it to resemble drywall. Since closets aren't very spacious, I need the divider to be quite thin. What methods or materials would you recommend for achieving this look?

Have you thought about using double-sided plywood? You could create a lightweight frame with 2x2s on the closet side, then add a skim coat and some texture before painting it. This way, you keep it relatively thin and still get that drywall vibe!
Another option would be to build a frame with 1x2s or 2x2s and use 1/4" drywall for the surface. This would give you a thickness of about 1.25-2". Alternatively, a nicely painted piece of plywood could give you a smooth finish that mimics drywall without bulk, or you could attach 1/4" drywall to a thin piece of plywood for an even sleeker look.
If you're aiming for a drywall look but want to keep it slim, I'd suggest using plywood. It's sturdy and you can easily paint it to match your existing wall colors. If you still want to go with traditional drywall, you can set that on a framed 2x4 wall, which will end up being thicker than what you might like. Just be careful if you consider a thinner frame since it might be too flimsy, especially if you have kids or pets around.
