I'm planning to mount a cabinet on my wall and I've been checking out various options. However, every time I find something appealing, the sellers keep saying the weight capacity is only 2-3 kg per shelf, which seems really low to me. Is this standard for cabinets? Aren't they designed to hold heavier items like plates and other kitchenware?

Haha, no way! Cabinets should generally hold much more than that, unless they’re super flimsy or even cardboard. You'd want something sturdy that can handle quite a bit more.
There’s a distinction between what the whole cabinet can hold versus the shelves themselves. It really depends on the materials and how it's constructed. Always trust the manufacturer's specs rather than just going off what the seller says!

Absolutely, and don’t forget how the cabinet is mounted to the wall can also affect its sturdiness. A poorly anchored cabinet can fail regardless of the shelf strength!
