I've been dealing with a leak in my apartment bathroom that has stumped the plumber after five visits. During the last visit, the plumber noticed that the tub seems a bit loose and that the caulking on the front half of the tub has cracked and rusted, even after being replaced. Despite this, I was informed that a full renovation would be needed to find the source of the leak, which surprised me since the tub drain hasn't even been replaced yet. They have recaulked the tub and toilet, initially suspecting the leak was inside the wall. I'm curious—what could be causing the slight movement in the tub when I use it? And why the rush for a full renovation without first replacing the tub overfill or drain?

Have you had the same plumber the whole time? Sometimes it helps to get a second opinion from another plumbing expert. Also, have they considered using a FLIR camera to find the leak? It can give a more precise look rather than just tearing things apart. And how has no one checked the tub drain yet? That's a bit puzzling!

I asked the owner about getting a second opinion, but he insisted his guy is the best around here in LA. I did bring up the tub drain, but I don't think it was replaced. They checked it a bit last time, but they still haven’t used any cameras. They opened up the ceiling in the garage below to do water tests and recaulked the tub again, which has gotten damaged already.
