I'm new to woodworking and haven't tackled any projects yet. Before diving in, I'd love to hear from everyone about what your very first project was. Did you go for something practical like a shelf, or something simpler like a birdhouse or a box? In hindsight, would you still recommend that as a good starting point? Thanks for sharing your experiences—they'll really help me and maybe other newbies pick a solid "first build!"

I started with wood and metal candle stick holders back in 7th grade shop class, and I've loved woodworking ever since! Thanks to Mr. Funk for the inspiration!
A sturdy workbench makes for a great first project since it doesn’t have to be perfect. It’s super practical and can really help as you take on new woodworking tasks!
My first project was a bottle opener with a magnet to catch the bottle caps. I still use it all the time! Definitely a fun and useful beginner project.
