When Can I Expect to Harvest My First Ripe Tomatoes?

Hey everyone! I'm eagerly watching my green tomatoes grow and can't help but wonder how soon I might start picking the first ripe ones. Every year, I'm always hoping they'll be ready sooner than they actually are. How about you? When do you usually begin harvesting your tomatoes?

I'm in Kansas City, and I typically see my first tomatoes at the end of July, with the main harvest rolling in around the second week of August. It always seems to take forever, but then it feels like I’m drowning in tomatoes!

Totally feel you on that! It’s such a rollercoaster waiting for them.

In Northeast Texas, I usually start harvesting in late May. I've been enjoying ripe tomatoes a couple of times a day this week! It’s always such a thrill, right?

Your tomatoes look gorgeous! What varieties do you grow?

For me, I wait until the tomatoes start turning yellow or orange. It always feels like it’s taking forever, but then suddenly, they’re ripe! Once they start coming in, I have way more than I can eat!
