When Should I Expect My Asparagus Crowns to Sprout?

I planted 32 asparagus crowns at the end of May and beginning of June, but I haven't seen a single spear come up through the soil yet. Is it normal not to see anything until next spring, or have I just planted duds?

Last year, I put in 4 crowns and they started growing around May. This year, I added 10 more but they're MIA right now. I'm not too worried, though—these plants can be hardier than you might think. They might just be chilling in the soft soil for a bit!

I planted crowns a few years ago, and honestly, they took their sweet time to show up. I think you might not see anything until next spring! Patience is key with these guys.
