When Should I Stop Deadheading Cosmos and Calendula to Collect Seeds?

I'm new to gardening and wondering if now is a good time to stop deadheading my cosmos and calendula plants. I want to collect some seeds for next year and maybe let some self-seed as well. Any advice would be appreciated!

Yeah, it’s a good time to stop deadheading! Each flower can produce quite a few seeds, typically around 10-20, so you don’t need to leave many flower heads to get a good collection. Leaving just 3 or 4 flower heads should do the trick!

Absolutely, now is the right moment to let them go to seed. I particularly enjoy seeing the seed heads when they're dusted with frost—it’s such a pretty sight!

Do you think I should remove the heads before the frost hits?
