Hey everyone! I'm really confused about when to start direct sowing in Zone 6b. It feels like our frost dates always catch me off guard, and I end up either waiting too long or risk planting too early and dealing with frost damage (not fun!). So, when is the best time to get those seeds in the ground?

Typically, Mother's Day is a good rule of thumb for Zone 6b. That’s when the frost threat usually passes. If you aim for that date, you should be safe to start your sowing.
Enjoyable weekend coming up!
I direct sowed 3 weeks ago, and I was worried when they didn’t grow right away, but they’re doing fine now! Give it some time. Once the trees bud, you’ll know it’s time to plant your finicky stuff.
I just jumped into gardening and I’m also in 6b with sandy soil. It’s tricky, but I’ve had success with direct sowing potatoes, scallions, and carrots a couple of weeks ago. If you’re looking for ideas to plant now, think about zucchini, squash, beans, and hopefully some pumpkins! Brassicas and other finicky plants might need a bit more patience, though.
No idea, I'm here for answers too! But I hear zucchini and beans are great.
I started sowing my cool-weather plants around late March, and while I stressed when I didn’t see growth, they eventually sprouted! It took about three weeks for some warmth to kick in, but now everything looks good. I’m going to start my tomatoes and beans soon. Just remember, it can get chaotic, but it works out in the end!

This! That's my plan too.
