Hey everyone! I'm sharing this situation I'm dealing with regarding my grandmother's estate. My sister and I are executors, and we need to decide what to do with her home. We have a few options: sell it as-is, fix it up and sell, or fix it up and rent it out with help from a property management company. The house has seen better days, though! It's a 1957 build with all sorts of problems ranging from structural issues and mold to outdated electric systems and even a broken garage door. Plus, cleaning out her stuff has been a massive project in itself. We're conflicted because this home holds a lot of memories for us, but we're also worried about the costs and whether we'll end up with any profit. What would make you throw in the towel and just sell it as-is? What would be the final straw for you?

I hear you! From what I've seen working with estates, selling as-is is generally a smart move. You may think about doing renovations, but they can turn into a huge headache. Just get what you can and move on—it's less stressful!
Honestly, I'd say just sell as-is. It’s a tough decision, but you won't really recover the time and money you'd put into renovations. Plus, people often just want a home to be nice, not super fancy. Just find a good realtor who knows the area well—make sure they have a solid record for selling similar homes recently!
For me, it's definitely a sell-as-is situation. With that amount of work needed, it's likely going to be a nightmare. I mean, if you're getting cash offers from investors and they're close to your estimates, I'd strongly consider that. It's less hassle and might save you a lot of time and effort in the long run!

Thanks for that perspective! It’s hard to let go, but I definitely see the value in an easy exit!
