I'm not really into gardening, but I do enjoy having a beautiful garden. Recently, I moved into a house with some flower beds that are empty, thanks to the previous owners clearing everything out. I'm wondering if I can just buy a bunch of mixed bulbs that bloom at different times and plant them all at once. Can I just plant them whenever, or do I need to follow specific timing for each type?

Most bulbs have specific planting times for best results. For example, spring-blooming bulbs like daffodils and crocuses should be in the ground by the end of September. Tulips need to go in around November since they thrive with a bit of frost to avoid diseases like Tulip Fire. If you're buying bulbs from a garden center, they usually provide clear planting instructions, so just keep an eye out for any sale items since they might be out of season.
Have you considered pre-made garden borders? Some online garden centers offer them with a nice mix of plants that bloom at different times, giving you a variety of colors and textures throughout the season. Could save you some effort!
You're right that timing matters! Daffodils do better when planted in slightly warmer soil. On the flip side, tulips benefit from the cold to prevent fungal issues. So yes, getting them in on time helps them establish properly. Personally, I love planting bulbs in the autumn!
