I'm currently working on a project that involves joining a couple of wood planks that are 25mm thick. I believe I need 5d common nails, which are about 1 3/4" long, but I'm having a hard time finding any. I've come across some links for finishing nails of that length, but those won't be strong enough for what I need. If anyone has suggestions on where I can buy 5d common nails, especially in the US, I'd really appreciate it!

If you're struggling to find 5d nails, try searching online for box nails instead. They might be a bit thinner but could work in some cases. Also, double-check your lumber thickness, as 25mm might be closer to 3/4" in the US. If it is kiln-dried wood, consider pre-drilling or using self-drilling screws to avoid splitting the boards!
I don't know your exact location, but if you're in the US, Home Depot usually carries 5d common nails. You can check their website or visit a local store. Just make sure you're looking for the right type since they often have finishing nails too, which aren’t suitable for heavy-duty projects. Good luck!
Thanks for the suggestion! I did check Home Depot, but I really need to focus on common nails rather than finishing nails, since they wouldn't hold up for what I'm doing.

Thanks for the tips! I appreciate the heads up on checking the actual dimensions of my wood—definitely don't want any mishaps during assembly.
