I'm searching for an F-500 type fire extinguisher, which I've heard is the only approved option for LiFePO4 batteries. The problem is that I can only find one seller in Australia, and they want $260 plus who knows what for shipping. Does anyone know where I might find one closer to home?

You might not need to stress too much about finding an F-500 extinguisher specifically for your LiFePO4 batteries. They're actually quite stable unless they suffer a massive impact or are exposed to a fire. An ABC or CO2 extinguisher should do the trick for fires that could affect the batteries from surrounding sources. Remember, it's usually the inverter that's more likely to catch fire in these situations!
Honestly, LiFePO4 batteries are generally safer than other components like inverters or wiring when it comes to fire risks. I've seen all kinds of equipment melt down, but these batteries are pretty resilient. If you’re still concerned, consider investing in LFP batteries with built-in fire suppression systems. Mine even vented some gas to put out a fire when it was tested! If you have an ABC extinguisher handy and have set up your installation properly, you should be in good shape.
