Where can I find dead wood for my garden?

I'm really drawn to the aesthetic of dead wood and weathered trees I see in the forests. I'm interested in buying some for my garden but I have no clue where to start looking. Are there any gardening centers or places like that which sell it?

It's super important to be cautious about where you get dead wood. Just grabbing it from the woods can be illegal since most areas are privately owned. It's best to ask landowners or the forestry commission for permission first. Alternatively, you can reach out to arborist companies; they might have spare wood from tree removals in private gardens that they can sell you.

Foraging after a heavy storm can be a goldmine for dead wood! Just take a stroll in your local woods and you might find what you need. Just remember, make sure you're allowed to take it!

If you want something specific like driftwood, try checking out Facebook Marketplace. You can also find out who manages nearby forests and see if they're okay with you taking wood. Some local tree surgeons might also be willing to part with what they can't use.
