I'm in the process of re-shingling my 200 sq ft garage and I'm looking to install solar mounts while I'm at it. I need to know the best design to map out the locations for the under-the-shingle iron ridge mounts. I'm not planning to install the solar panels just yet, but I want to make sure the mounts are set correctly. Can anyone advise on who can provide this solar design or come out to install just the mounts?

It seems a bit premature to install the racking system mounts right now. You'd be better off waiting until you've installed the new roof. The rack mounts can be put in on the same day the solar panels are secured in place. Modern rack systems are designed to go right through the shingles into the rafters, ensuring they're weather-tight. Just a thought!

But how do they actually locate the rafters? Isn’t it easier to do the installation when the underlayment is still visible?
